Really, my mojo levels are not up to the usual worthy of this blog. It's quite frustrating 'cos I've got at least two outstanding projects which should've been finished last year. The inspiration is still not up to par around here, but I may have found something to wake-up the creative impetus.
About a fortnight ago, spurred on by the ripple-envy from last year's craze, I signed up to a beginner's crochet class at Tapestry Craft. That's my class practice swatch down there.
I've been wanting to play with yarn for a bit, but have been and still am a miserable failure at knitting. There was that granny square lesson I did last year, which I'm afraid has since evaporated into the ether. And some unsuccessful attempts at trying to pick it up from reading books and tutorials online. Anyhow, I must've absorbed enough crochet know-how bits that it all just clicked during the lesson on Saturday.
I've just finished tackling "soft waves" on a practice swatch with some cheap yarn. I know. I'm so behind the times. And lookee, lookee! I can see a nice new scarf for me this winter, once I've tripped up to get some better wool, of course. (Note to self - do not build a yarn stash!)
I'm diving right this moment into attempting something from this book. Wish me luck!
And I hope everyone had a good weekend. Cheerio!

Your crochet looks great! I really struggle with it - I cannot keep the tension at all!! I loved your note to self!! I wonder if you will resist a yarn stash!
I can't wait to see all those ripples finished!!
Ooh, watch out!! Those ripples are SO addictive!
Gorgeous crocheting, love the rippling!!! It is just a hop, step and a jump to a stash now- sorry about that!!
Hey Miss!!
I Love the ripple crochet! You'll have to borrow my Winnie the Pooh and Care Bear patterns and make some toys!! I love crochet too.
:)
Oooooh lovely Jade and good idea to start the scarf now for wearing in winter! I can see a ripple blanket coming on and before you know it you will be on the Bendigo Woollen Mills mailing list!!
Looks great, Jade!! You'll be churning out the amigurumis in no time now :)
HOW CUTE!! That will make a gorgeous scarf! I have also been wanting to learm to crochet - one day I will get to it!! Keep it going and can't wait to see your progress!! =)
Girl you're doing great! Remember, I have crochet tutorials on my blog ;) Stop by sometime!
It looks wonderful Jade! Are your winters cold enough to wear scarfes? That’s nice. You have some crocheting to do then!
Ha ha what do you mean you're not gonna build a yarn stash - as if you will be able to resist!! And you definitely won't be able to when you come on your shopping trip to Melbourne cause I will make sure you visit the beautiful Melbourne wool shops!
oh please, I'm trying desperately not to buy this book....
Thank you for the gorgeous Gocco postcards. I will blog about them soon when my mojo returns from where ever it has gone on Summer holidays. I love your ripples. I am a self-taught crocheter and last year I bought that same book but none of my sample pieces look like that. I must need a real lesson. Be very wary of the wool stash...
Your crochet looks fantastic. I love the color combo too, and I hope one day to practice a blanket too, although I have never really crocheted before.
Oooohh, lookey -- Jade has yarn!!! Laughed at your note to self -- good luck with not building a stash! I've been pretty good, but only 'cause I'm not to the point with yarn that I am with fabric -- meaning I can't just pick up yarn and imagine something that I can make with it. I still have to buy my yarn with a purpose. However, I'm starting to be able to do it with sock yarns and the stash is slowly growing -- I buy faster than I make -- Aack -- must exercise self control!!! Looking forward to seeing your new scarf!
I love the ripples! Very cool. And you are so outgoing for trying crochet. I just pick things I like and hint that my mom should knit that. :)
