The mood is grey

Not grim, just grey. It's been showering buckets non-stop for the last two weeks. And my mood has leached out onto the blog. Apologies, peeps. Never in my life before have I let the weather affect my disposition, but it appears I reached some kind of "saturation" point.

Anyhow, thank you for your concern.....because some of you have been so nice to ask. I lifted myself out of the doldrums with some cute sewing for the wee one. This one just happened to be grey, too. A beautiful light grey wool flannel, to be exact. Aussie peeps, I sourced the fabric (and buttons) from Tessuti.

The pattern (garment "w") is from this japanese craft book. Again, with lots of additions....I had to lengthen it past the kid's hips, added the crochet lace trim and of course, inserted the lining. This winter jacket is fully lined to the sleeve cuffs.

I know! Very ambitious of me. (I love these buttons!) You probably know by now, I'm always up for a jump in the deep end. Cos I get bored with repetition. And I'm always wanting to prove to myself that I can do the scary, difficult kind of sewing, too. Of course, this kind of "throwing caution to the winds" stitching action does come with the occasional blunder.

This one's boo-boo is not too obvious. In all my caution at cutting generous seam allowances, its ended up a size too big. She's swimming in it. But I'm hoping it will fit before the end of winter.....and if she grows slowly, it might even get a wear next year. Yippee!

Okeydokes! The sun finally made an appearance this weekend, so we're taking full advantage of the nicer weather.

Cheerio!

You’re really looking for challenges Jade! It’s gorgeous. The red lining, wonderful! I hope she grows into the jacket (but not too soon...!)
We have had the most gorgeous week full of sunshine, today will be the last day however. Tomorrow the temperature will drop and we will have lots of showers.
Take care!

Beautiful! With all that work, better for it to be too big than small. Love the red lining and buttons, just perfect. See you Friday!

Hi Jade, glad to hear you're feeling a bit cheerier. The jacket is amazing - love the grey against the red lining (and buttons of course...) Yaay Tessutis!

Jade! It's beautiful. That lining just makes it. And I have to agree with you on the buttons. It could have been far worse though, you could have made it too small. And that would have been a tragedy. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful work.

What a great jacket! I love the red lining.
And thank goodness for two days of sunshine, that rain was really getting to me too (and our laundry basket was out of control!)

Jade, it's gorgeous and I can't wait to see little one in it. Love the red lining with the grey, perfect combo. Have to get some ideas for a coat for Hannah too, she's lacking in the stylish warm wear at the moment! We just got back from Loo's farm and it POURED rain for the whole week, imagine being stuck indoors with 7 adults and 7 kids in a small house for a week?!!!! Glad to be home....

Jade it is really amazing! I can't wait to see her wearing it! I love the fact that you lined it in that deep red satin - I used to have a black wool jacket lined in red satin - I loved it!

I hope the sun stays out for a while!

Jade that jacket is simply stunning. You did a beautiful job and the grey and red are just perfect together. I know all about the weather blues, we have not had rain but cold freezing windy days where it is no use being outside. I wish we had some of your rain though.

Oh, isn't that frustrating when something doesn't come out the right size? But it's so beautiful anyway -- what a wonderful job. And at least it's too big and not too small. Promise us you'll show a pic when she's big enough to wear it!

I agree that bigger is better than smaller... The jacket is so lovely and you would want her to wear this fabulous coat for as long as she could. I love the red lining , crochet trim and buttons you have used. You are a very clever and talented mamma! x Colette

Jade I need to ask you if I could do a post about this sweet little jacket out of the yummy flannel on my blog and use the first picture from your post.

Just wanted to check with you first. Feel free to say no too.
