Reuse & re-make

Since starting this sewing and quilting gig, I've become increasingly aware of what a consumerist I am (cue the shoe collection, ack!). I've also started scouring the op-shops for fabric that no one wants......and saving every single fabric scrap thats bigger than two inches. Is that going too far?

Anyhow, I kicked out the geezer and the bub out for a couple of hours yesterday to build up some sewing momentum on this here top....and ta da! Finished!

I was quite happy to be able to use this old queen size bed sheet (vintage Bill Blass, circa mid 1970s), cut up to work into the quilt top. That would be the blue cross-hatch print. The rest of it is set aside for the quilt back.

It feels good to give a new lease on this fabric's life. Now its going to be enjoyed for lots more years to come on a little girl's bed.

And once the quilt top and the back leaves for some long-arming tomorrow, I'll have taken the stash a gigantic step closer to keeping it in check. Phew!

Enter my new objective: try to reuse some "old" fabric into every project. I don't think this will make me feel less like a consumerist, but I'd feel a bit better adding less to the rubbish tip.

Hokay! I think I'll just act the slacker for the rest of today.....and veg out on the couch. Cheerio!

Well done Jade with old fabric. It goes together so well you would swear you spent ages in the quilting shop!!

Fantastic use of a vintage sheet Jade. I love them too for quilt backings but the good cotton ones from the 70's are getting harder and harder to get. Oh well won't stop me from searching for them though.

This quilt looks really great and cheerful and your stash must have been decreased by now... I never met Katie Jump Rope in the Op shop though...

Wow! It looks great. Love the pattern and all the fabrics are fantastic. Looks an easy pattern but somehow quilting still scares me. The starting & picking fabrics of it anyway.

The old fabric works so well with the new stuff - I love the blue and orange colours - one of my favourite combinations.

I love your quilt = the colours are great! I think it is a really good thing to be using vintage fabric and tiny leftover pieces - it means you are not a consumerist!!

The quilt top looks great. Lucky you being able to send it out to be quilted too. I am sure it will turn out wonderful, and what a great way to reuse fabrics too.

Holy Cow Woman! You've been a busy bee since I've been gone! I LOVE, Love, love the quilt. Love the blues. And I thoroughly enjoyed your name meme and the blog meme. You had me laughing out loud at your potty mouth comment 'cause I could so relate. And I smiled when I read your bloglines comment about 300 seeming to be the threshhold at which you can't control it -- I'm almost there and it's SO true. I keep coming across new fabulous blogs and keep resisting the urge to add them -- which is just somehow so wrong! Please find the blog management secret and share it!!! ;-)

Gorgeous! I love how you incorporated the old with the new, Jade. Please be sure to post this beauty again when it's quilted. Something this beautiful deserves another posting. ;o)
