Off colour

I think my next painting will be about feet, the grubby bub's feet to be exact. I've already chosen the actual photo frame to use, but I still need to make my way up to the photo lab to get it developed, as my printer at home is only black-and-white. It will be done in the same impressionist style as the last, looking like a water colour and lots of solid blocks using the palette knife.

Taking home the other completed piece this weekend..........can't wait to hang it up.

Managed to fire up the sewing machine, too and tested it out making a front log cabin cushion panel which will end up as a Christmas present for one of the grandmas. I reckon its worked out well and has definitely sparked my enthusiasm for doing more sewing projects. Might as well, since there's that huge stash of fabric of mum's.

Have been feeling off colour lately, this bloody weather.........the temperature is up and down. Arghhh! Also, as its been so overcast can't show any photos. The light's been horrible .

Anyway, there's a nappy waiting to be changed.

Laters!

Bleary eyed

Dang bloody cat woke me up at 1.30AM and here we are still awake. Will try to get back to sleep soon or suffer the consequences during art class. Arghh!

Okay.......might as well post some paintings while I'm at it. These are part of the series which I posted a preview about earlier, inspired by the jacaranda tree outside the sunroom window. (Note to self: I must get a scanner as soon as I have a job again)

Alright, legs and arms turning to jelly now. Must get some snooze time!

Manic time

Its so easy to while away the time just reading blogs and doing some internet windowshopping...procrastinating about all the other errands I'm meant to be doing by deliberate distraction. There's the place to clean, laundry to fold, credit card bills to pay, child care to book and the bub's purees to make among other things. Then the pile of projects I've set up for myself. Guess the housie things are more important at the moment as its now manic time. I'll need to open and admire my brand spanking new sewing machine this afternoon, too!

Before I sign off, here's an oldie. Painted way back in my early teens. That's an eagle on the tree branch. The piece is based on a photograph taken by my uncle.

Rightyho! Chop chop!

Back to the projects

Our "froggy" house guest has left to go tramping in the Tassie bush and watch the Ashes Test in Adelaide for the next two weeks, so I've got my now very neat and clean work space back. He did come offering gifts though, so I didn't mind too much. I received a beautiful Taschen book on Picasso, the 25th anniversary edition. The "blue period" paintings are so vivid and atmospheric. Feeling inspired to paint blue art again. I painted two mostly blue paintings last year, which was about sea animals. One has sea lions....

.... and the other one is a turtle portrait.

All in all, I'm quite happy with those. I'll put them on the walls when we move to the house in Brisbane next year.

Onto what's currently on the drawing board:

1) Recently finished a mostly green painting featuring two children running through a grassy clearing playing with a kite. I'll post this photo on a future post soon as I get a decent shot of it.

2) Laid down the 2nd layer on the large oil painting of the grubby bub

3) In the middle of painting the acrylic series of three "little lass" pieces

4) Still in the middle of handquilting the baby rug

Still plenty to keep me busy! Also got myself a sewing machine (new projects, yay!) which I can now take out of the box and make more mess with.

Must think of new subjects for the next set of paintings!

Painting of the day

I thought that since I'm not really being creative at the moment, I'll just show one of my favourite paintings. I finished this middle of last year and really like how the vividness of the colours came out. It's now hanging on the wall at my mum's house.

Slacker me

Yes, haven't been up to anything, except for art class on the weekend and some doodles in my journal. We have a house guest all the way from France, best friend of the Geezer, over for a holiday in the sun. Not that we've had a lot of sun lately, but fortunately today is one of those blue-sky pictures. The place is a mess and there's not much room right now spread out my materials/stuff. Promise to be back at it on Wednesday.

Been so long..........

.....And the weather has grown warmer. I've also been very busy. Just finished a series of small mix media paintings, which will be going to one of my best friends for Christmas. I don't like giving shabby presents and given my unemployed status at the moment, I can't really afford to give beautiful things, so I decided to make them. So this is the 1st of three, inspired by the jacaranda tree outside sunroom window, which is just now starting to shed its crap all over the street and the footpath. I'll post the other two pieces later.

These are the new pieces I've either just finished or in the middle of:

1) Large oil painting of two children flying a kite, about a year overdue

2) Started a large oil painting of the little sweetpea, have laid down the 1st layer last weekend

3) Finished the set of three jacaranda paintings, as per photo above

4) Sketched out another set of three small paintings based on the grubby bub

5) In the middle of handquilting the baby rug/blanket - very slow at this

6) Fixed shirt elastic on the blue girl doll that I've had for yonks, which the bubba is always looking at, but can't reach out for yet

I also added more ideas to my art diary over the last two weeks and made two expensive trips to the art supply store. Also went to the Rozelle 2nd hand markets to get some old books and this wonderful apple shaped bowl.

This week I'm going to Lincraft and Spotlight to look at sewing machines and fabric. Not sure much is going to get done creating-wise this week as we have a guest from France, one of the geezer's very best friends. He'll be sleeping in the living room (for 10 days from Wednesday), which is right next to the sunroom, which has become my defacto work space. Oh well! I'll have an excuse to clean. I'll probably also use this time to convert to the next version of Bugger, I mean Blogger.

Where the heart is

Its in the spare bedroom taking a nap and somewhere in a building in St Leonards, probably having lunch. Hmmm. There's an idea for a piece of art in that sentence.

I came from a walk with the lil' sweetpea and brought some goodies home - nope no magazines today. However there's some gift wrap paper that I might use as inspiration for decorating later on. The chandelier paper is especially pretty.

I really need to make a trip to Eckersley's and stock up on some art supplies. I've just used up all my canvasses and am also wanting some acrylic paints. What a tosser I am!!! Some time ago I gave away a whole stash of unfinished paint tubes, because I thought I was going to concentrate on oils. Bahh! Well, I'll just have to fork out for the paint. Doesn't matter, as I enjoy art supply shopping.

Also here's progress on the bubby quilt (from mum) I'm making which I should have started months ago when I was pregnant, but didn't.

Nothing too crash hot, just a bit of embellishment to make it more interesting. I haven't got a sewing machine at home, so I'll just finish all the hand stitching before I go to my mum's and borrow her machine to do the hems.

The weekend was excellent but waaayy too short! The grubby bub is sweet and growing quickly. She's getting heavy (owww, my back!).

Ciao!
