Dress done & dusted

Finally, some finished crafty to show you bloggy peeps! Design-wise it's an oldie......which of course I've never done before and I didn't have a pattern for. But plough on I did, because I do love a challenge.

The dress was originally inspired by this pretty one, as requested by her mummy. But since the little girl is only three years old I thought to design it more as a dress, so that she can wear it right away this summer.

It'll still be wearable as a smock top when winter comes around next year. I can already see it with a navy skivvy and some cute patterned leggings.

And here's where those shanked buttons ended up, with my attempt at the rouleau loop (swanky name for a fancy button loop). I still haven't conquered the rouleau loop, but these are as close to resembling them as I can.

Cheerio! And now we're off to head into some wet weather. Blech!

It's gorgeous - great idea - I did something similar last summer as dresses and now they use them as tops.

Oh Jade! It's adorable. Like you, I'm a garment maker at heart. Sure wish I had a little girl to sew for! ;-) And thanks for posting the pictures around Sydney -- I can see TheSecondChild is going to be in for a very big adventure!!!

Love this dress Jade! And I love its versatility! I'm hoping to make something like it (dress that turns into a smock when they get bigger) for the girls for summer. It's also nice to get a peek into your sketch book :-)

And just wondering about Thimbleanna's comment above - "TheSecondChild"??? Hmmm, did I miss something ;-) Is she referring to hers or yours?

Super, super cute Jade! Don't you love the versatility of the whole smock/dress thingy. I might have to whip up a few for the girls - time would be a fine thing!

That’s wonderful Jade! It’s a pitty the mummies of the little girls in my family don’t fancy handmade dresses.

Your garment sketches are so neat. They remind me of tech drawing classes in high school. The dress is very cute!
