It's really gratifying when you create a new something and it turns out even better than the image in your mind's eye.
I had long been in love with this tulip skirt Jenny Gordy designed for Stitch magazine....and although I knew that my old before-bub shape would have worn it pretty well, I wasn't so sure about sticking my pear-bod into this one. My hips would never look as cute as the size 6 model on that glossy page.
Short of getting an emergency tummy-tuck, some pattern altering had to be done. And here tis. Very comfy and very wearable. In fact, I'd probably buy this off the rack if I saw it in a shop.
Medium-weight chocolate linen and buttons from Tessuti...and I pretty much followed all the instructions to the letter. Except I top-stitched the waistband and the placket seams to make them sit flat. I also sewed the pleats down 5cm from the waistband seam, to make me look less hip-py. The dark colour of the fabric definitely helps.
I might take this out for a spin in this unseasonal warm weather we're having. In the meantime, must whittle down that list below.
Tootles!

It has turned out really nice and flattering on you. There is nothing like a great skirt that you will wear all spring/summer.
That skirt is gorgeous - you wear it well and I adore the owl pendant.
It looks amazing! The funny thing is I was flicking through that magazine today and it really caught my eye! The chocolate linen was an excellent choice.
It looks beautiful on you, and yes I know about needing an emergency tummy tuck, lol!!
Jade I love it and it looks great on you
Very cute Jade! It looks great on you -- what a great idea to stitch the pleats down. I've always stayed away from pleats, but stitching them down would do the trick!
love it Jade - you look great! Can you wear it to the Show so we can all have a look at it?
Hi Jade, great to catch up with you at the show. Sorry I was so distracted with the family in tow! On another topic (!) can you tell me where you got your copy of Stitch magazine from? I got the first issue, but can't for the life of me remember where I bought it?! (Dementia is setting in already.....). I know you can order it direct from the publishers (but the shipping cost is very hefty.)
what are you talking about! you are a size 6!!!! you are evil because now I'm off to buy the past issues of that fabulous magazine! why haven't I seen it in the stores here!!!
Corrie:)
